Good News, Bad News for Medical Job Seekers
Sunday July 6, 2008
The Bureau of Labor Statistics released the latest employment statistics for June, marking the half-way point of the year. The good news is: the healthcare industry added 15,000 jobs over the month of June, whereas many other industries lost jobs for the month, according to the BLS. The bad news is: the gain of 15,000 jobs last month is only half the amount of jobs that the healthcare industry has been adding each month, on average, over the past year. Although non-farm payroll has collectively lost over 400,000 jobs in the first half of 2008, healthcare has actually added 170,000 jobs so far this year. Therefore, I think it's safe to say that the good news definitely outweighs the bad for healthcare professionals.
