October is American Pharmacists Month, sponsored by the American Pharmacists Association.
According to the APA, American Pharmacists Month (APhM) is celebrated every year in October and is a time to recognize the vital contributions pharmacists make to health care, safe medication use and advanced medical care.
Following is a statement from the APA regarding the field of pharmacy, in relation to American Pharmacists Month:
Pharmacists are experts in helping patients get the most out of today's complicated medications. They are an integrated member of the health care team and are directly involved in patient care. Pharmacists advise patients and health care providers on the selection, dosages, interactions, and side effects of medications. Pharmacists have a significant role in assessing medication management in patients, and in referring patients to physicians, as they are often the first point-of-contact for patients with health inquiries.
