Definition: An electrophysiologist is a physician who specializes in a type of cardiology called electrophysiology. Electrophysiology entails the diagnosis and treatment of irregular heartbeats, or arrhythmias of the heart. Electrophysiologists complete all of the training of a cardiologist, (medical school, residency, and fellowship), plus 1-2 additional years of fellowship training in electrophysiology.
