Answer: A physiatrist is a physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), also known as physiatry. Physiatry combines some aspects of non-surgical orthopedics, pain management, and physical therapy and rehabilitation.
Patients may see a physiatrist to help recover from surgery, or recuperate from an injury, or prevent the need to have surgery, among other things.
